Should Nintendo Release More Remastered Games?

Love Them Or Hate Them, Remastered Games Are A Staple Of The Gaming Community, Especially Right Now. A Plethora Of PS3 And Xbox 360 Titles Have Been Revisited On The PS4 And Xbox One, Each With Varying Results. Some Games Just Get A Fresh Coat Of Paint, While Others Are Switched Up And Have New Elements Added To Bring New Experiences To Gamers Who Maybe Already Played The Original. Plus, They Fill Out Libraries Nicely, And While The Practice Of Remastering Games First Released Just A Few Years Ago Is Questionable, It Works.

So Why The Hell Isn’t Nintendo Doing More Remastered Games?

The Wii U Has Only Received One Remaster In Its Life Time, And It Is A Classic: The Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker HD. Transforming The Original GameCube Game With Gorgeous HD Graphics And GamePad Use Made It One Of The Most Successful Games On The Wii U With Fans And Critics Alike. The Game Sold Over 1 Million Copies Worldwide As Well, So This Was A Smart Thing For Nintendo To Do.

Time Could Be A Factor. Obviously These Remastered Games Take Some Time To Create, But With The Base Of The Game Already In Place, Upgrading Textures And Adding Some Additional Content Can’t Take All That Long. In The Eyes Of A Lot Of Gamers, The Wii U Is Starting To Fade Into The Sun In 2016, But Nintendo Themselves Say That The Wii U Will Be A Part Of The Upcoming Eco-System That Includes The Nintendo 3DS, NX, Wii U, Mobile, And Computer. So Going Under The Assumption That The Wii U Will Still Be A Part Of Nintendo’s Future, Wouldn’t It Be Wise To Continue Putting Content On It? And What Better Way To Do That Than To Revisit Some Old Classics.

Plus, Let’s Face It: Of All The Companies Releasing Remastered Games, Nintendo Has Both The Most To Gain And Has The Library Of Games That Would Most Benefit From Remasters. Considering That The Wii Was Essentially A Beefed Up GameCube, Both Of Those Consoles Are Ripe For The Picking With Titles That Would Benefit From A Remaster. Just Off The Top Of My Head, I Think It’d Be Amazing To Have The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight PrincessSuper Mario Galaxy 1 And 2Metroid Prime, Even Luigi’s Mansionremastered. All Of Those Games Already Have The Ground Work Laid Down, And Just Need Hi-Res Textures And Optional GamePad Support.

Or If You Want To Get People Really Interested, You Have The N64, SNES, And NES Library. Granted, The Latter Two Would Take Substantial Time To Create, But How Many Copies Would The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time HD With Additional Content Sell? That’s A System Seller, And In My Opinion, Would Rival Sales Of Any Game On The Wii U Currently. The OriginalMetroid Actually Received A Remaster, WithMetroid: Zero Mission For The Game Boy Advance, So It’s Not Like Nintendo Is Above Revisiting Original NES Games And Recreating Them For A New Audience.

Honestly, I Don’t Know. I Suppose The Time Needed And Resources/Developers Needed Would Take Away From Other Projects, But These Could Be Outsourced To Companies, Which Would Be A Win-Win For Both Parties Involved. The Team Handling The Game Would Get Money From Nintendo For Doing The Game, And Nintendo Would See Sales And Consoles Moved From The Games. Do You Think It’s Time For Nintendo To Join The Trend Of Remasters, Making It A Common Thing And Not A Rarity? Let Me Know In The Comments Below.
